How to Install the RW Steam Engine Whistle & Generator Guide | Stirlingkit

New Accessories to Enhance Your RW Steam Engine Experience

We’re excited to announce two new accessories for your RW steam engine: the Steam Whistle and the Mini Generator Unit.

These additions not only add authentic steam sound and realistic operation, but also greatly enhance the fun and playability of your model. Whether you’re a collector or a hobbyist, these upgrades allow you to experience your steam engine in a more interactive and engaging way.

Installing them is simple, and our step-by-step tutorial video will guide you through the process, so you can enjoy the full experience without any hassle.

Part 1: Installing the Generator

Step 1: Remove the Flywheel

  1. First, remove the flywheel from the engine.

  2. Take it off together with the spacer (gasket/washer).

  3. Reinstall the flywheel assembly to the rear side according to the installation position shown in the video.

  4. Tighten the screw securely.

Make sure the flywheel is firmly installed before proceeding.

Step 2: Install the Generator Unit

  1. Position the generator bracket in place.

  2. Insert the two contact plates (electrical plates) properly.

  3. Use the two anchor pins to press the generator firmly into position.

  4. Install both anchor pins securely.

  5. Lightly tighten the fixing screw — do not overtighten.

Once installed, check whether the flywheel can smoothly drive the generator to rotate.

If you notice misalignment, manually adjust the bracket slightly until the rotation becomes smooth and stable.

After adjustment, complete the tightening process.

Part 2: Installing the Steam Whistle

Step 1: Remove the Original Screw

  1. Remove the screw from the reserved steam port location.

Step 2: Install the Steam Whistle

  1. Install the steam whistle onto the port.

  2. For better sealing, you may wrap a small amount of PTFE thread seal tape around the threaded area before installation.

  3. Use a wrench to securely tighten the locking hub.

  4. Tighten firmly but avoid excessive force.

Once secured, the steam whistle installation is complete.

Final Step: Test Operation

After both the generator and whistle are installed:

  1. Start the steam engine.

  2. Observe whether the generator rotates smoothly.

  3. Check if the whistle operates properly under steam pressure.

If everything runs smoothly, installation is successfully completed.
