1️⃣ Unboxing & Pre-Assembly Preparation

2️⃣ Assembly Guidance

Step-by-step approach for key components:

• Slide-Valve Single Cylinder Engine & Flywheel
  Use 2–3 hands to hold the cylinder and flywheel in place while tightening screws. Make sure the eccentric rod and valve gear are correctly aligned. Do not fully tighten screws until all major supports are installed — this prevents bending.
• Centrifugal Governor
  Mount carefully; the small weights must move freely. Verify rotation after partial assembly to ensure smooth operation.
• Cross-Head Guides & Piston Rod
  Install guides before tightening the piston rod; ensures smooth reciprocating motion. Lubricate lightly with sewing machine oil or steam oil before first operation.
• Boiler Fittings
  Attach safety valve, pressure gauge, water level gauge, handwheel stop valve, and whistle. Check that all fittings are tight but avoid overtightening, especially the glass sight gauge.
• Lamp Stand & Generator
  Connect the flywheel-driven generator to the lamp. Confirm the switch works properly before steam operation.

3️⃣ Operating Your SE-03 Steam Engine

1. Add water
   Use distilled water only to prevent scale build-up. Fill to the marked level on the sight glass.
2. Fuel
   Add anhydrous ethanol or solid fuel to the firebox. Use the handle to open the firebox window safely.
3. Ignition & Steam
   Light the fuel carefully. Open the handwheel stop valve slowly to allow steam into the cylinder. Monitor the flywheel and governor for smooth rotation.
4. Electric Output
   Flywheel powers the generator to light the lamp stand. Do not overload the generator; it is designed for small devices.
5. During Operation
   Check water level periodically. Do not leave the kit unattended while fuel is burning.
6. Shutdown
   Close the handwheel stop valve. Wait for the boiler to cool completely before touching metal parts or storing.

4️⃣ Lubrication & Maintenance

• Moving Metal Parts: Apply steam oil for cylinders, and light machine or sewing oil for flywheel, crankshaft, and cross-head guides.
• Bearings & Shafts: Keep lightly oiled; avoid WD-40, which can dry out or wash away quickly.
• Boiler Water: Always use distilled water to prevent scaling and maintain steam efficiency.
• Cleaning: Wipe metal surfaces with a soft dry cloth to maintain polished finish.

5️⃣ Troubleshooting Common Issues

If your engine doesn’t turn, first check the water level, fuel, and valve alignment. Make sure the flywheel spins freely and isn’t obstructed.

If the lamp doesn’t light, confirm that the generator is properly connected and that the flywheel is rotating steadily.

Steam leaks are usually caused by loose fittings or gaskets; double-check all connections, and inspect the glass sight gauge for cracks.

If any parts feel loose or fall off, don’t panic — small screws and washers are provided as spares. Recheck the orientation of the part using the instruction pictures.

If the governor or eccentric rod seems stuck, ensure screws aren’t over-tightened, lightly lubricate moving parts, and gently adjust alignment.

• The SE-03 boiler is crafted from& GB-standard brass, with a 1mm wall thickness and silver-containing brazed joints, polished to resist rust and oxidation. It is designed as a low-pressure demonstration model, not an industrial boiler.
• Working Medium: Normally distilled water (tap water can be used if necessary).
• Tested for Leaks: Each boiler is pressure-tested before shipping. Leak-free test pressure is 0.1 MPa, working pressure is about 0.03 MPa, and the safety valve opens at around 0.08 MPa.
• Fuel Options: 95% ethanol or solid fuel; do not use butane canisters.
• Zinc Corrosion Note: “Dezincification” occurs only in industrial high-pressure boilers with long-term water exposure, often years. SE-03 is safe for normal demonstration use.
